Below is a photo of a family gathering at Spalford to celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of John Bingham and Mary Ann Crawford, seated at centre. The celebration took place in March 1917. Can anyone identify the rest of the family members? The following is an excerpt from John Bingham's obituary published in the North Western Advocate and the Emu Bay Times on 9 December 1918. March 1917 Bingham reunion photo. I can confirm that the couple far left seated on wall are my great-grandparents, Louisa Bingham ( née McCulloch) and her husband Thomas Bingham. Thomas was the son of John Bingham. Louisa and Thomas had 3 son who served in the Great War. One of them - Owen Ernest Hugh Bingham - was killed in the Battle of Romani six months before this reunion photo was taken. Later, In the 1920s, Louisa was invited to unveil the then newly constructed First World War Memorial in Ulverstone.

Although I can not identify anyone in the pictures, my father was Basil Ernest Merton Bingham born in Christchurch New Zealand in 1928. His father was John Merton Bingham. John was the son of Ernest and Rachel Agnes (née Hewitt) Bingham born in Winton. My name is Julian Merton Bingham. I would be interested in comments from anyone in this family. I currently live in Mobile Alabama USA. My email is jmbingham395@gmail.com.

I do know that John Bingham had 4 children - Robert (my maternal grandfather), Rosalie, Wilfred and Martha. This photo is too long ago for me to recognise faces, but I would suspect that three of those siblings could be in it. As far as I know, Martha moved to the USA long before this photo was taken.

That was meant to be George Bingham with the 4 children, married to Janet.

Re:- Bingham Family dated 16/2/2018……...I am a descendant of the early pioneers Thomas Richard Polden and Mary Rigg both of Dorset England and from Kindred Tasmania from 1856. My grandfather Leonard Cecil Polden was born in Spalford TAS, and left Tasmania to Melbourne to join up for the Great War. His mother was Fanny Crawford, daughter of William Cash Crawford ( b in Glanford Brigg Lincolnshire) and Harriott Robinson; and niece of Mary Ann (Crawford) Bingham. Fanny was born in Caiston Lincolnshire England and to my knowledge and research, the eldest and only surviving child to emigrate to Tassy with her parents, although they went on to have further children (I have traced 9 Children) in Spalford, Campbelltown, Deloraine, Westbury and Pt Sorell. I have Henry Richard Polden and Fanny Crawfords original marriage certificate dated 29/8/1876 and married at the home of William Cash Crawford at Castra rd Spalford….. William Cash Crawford is the brother of Mary Ann Bingham née Crawford; Williams parents were Abraham Crawford b 5/10/1805 and Mary Ann Crawford née Cash b 22/9/1815 both of Redbourne Lincolnshire.I have managed to trace their earliest forebearers to John Crawforth (Crawford) b 29/5/1570 ( Crawforth was the original spelling till about 1731) and Marye Crawford née Jackes b17/3/1570. Unfortunately both William Cash Crawford and Harriett are not in your wedding anniversary photo as in 1879 William died and Harriett in1905 but possibly the elderly gent nearest to Mary Ann is one of her other surviving brothers( Henry d 19/12/1926 or George d 25/9/1926) or another, that I haven’t managed to find….. Abraham d 18/8/1875 at Hagley TAS and wife Mary Ann d 21/4/1885 at Launceston…. Also when i visited Tasmania some 20 years ago, and was travelling from Kindred, to my surprise I found 3 Tombstones on the side of the road at a junction point (from memory) at Spalford. One was William Cash Crawford and the other was Harriett Crawford née Robinson his wife. I’m thinking that they were buried on the edge of the family farm at Spalford. I know that William Cash Crawford was a Blacksmith …I have only managed to trace 4 of Abrahams Crawford and Mary’s children so far, but as they were married on the17/4/1831; And that William was born in October 1837 I’m sure that your Mary Ann Bingham had other siblings other than my William, and their brothers Henry b 4/1/1851 and George b 24/12/1854 as there is a big gap between William and his brothers that I have traced. I am unsure of the birth date of Mary Ann Bingham née Crawford…..I’m sadly unable to shine any light on your Bingham side of your family, but your Mary Ann (Crawford) Bingham has an amazing family tree and it is lovely to see a photo of my Grandfather Leonards great-aunt….
