By the early 1920s, Penguin was regarded as a popular seaside resort with rich agricultural country inland and the famous Blythe iron deposits in close proximity. At this time, Penguin had no public parks or garden, however, the shady beaches of Penguin were regarded as among the best and safest on the coast. I have some original hand written receipts from many of the shops shown here. They were in my house and are in near perfect condition.

The earliest is 1903. Mostly the first decade.

Unfortunately, back then, the Weekly Courier did not published any photos relating to aboriginal heritage in the Tasmanian Northwest. However, I have included contact details of the Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Museum on the Living History page. They are based in Devonport and have a wealth of information on aboriginal heritage in the northwest.

There are several other photographs relating to the Bishop-Osborne family. Check the search engine in the Gallery webpage.
