This leads to possibly another case of mistaken identity. According to various sources, the individuals in the photo below have been identified as siblings Marthann, Jabez and Luke Poke seated at front, with William, John and Charlotte Poke standing at the rear. Again the Weekly Courier says otherwise. Below right is a portrait of John Poke published in the Weekly Courier obituary in 1915. It is the same individual who has been identified as Jabez Poke seated at centre.
At the very bottom of the page is Jabez Poke, standing second from left, taken on 8 August 1912. What is of interest is the way the fob watch chain is spread across the chest, identical to the individual standing at centre in the sibling photo. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts if it is in fact Jabez Poke standing at centre. [1] I would also like to find out when the Poke sibling photo was taken. Does anyone know? [1] From left to right: D Nicholson (butcher), Jabez Poke (overseer for Charles Gilmour), Herbert Gibson (manager for W T Bell and Company Limited) and J Crooks (auctioneer)
